Summary

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council’s Education Directorate is looking to appoint an Educational Psychologist on a permanent basis from September 1st, 2025 or as soon as possible after this date. Applicants should be fully qualified Educational Psychologists as recognised by the HCPC, or current 2nd or 3rd year Trainee Educational Psychologists.

The Educational Psychology Service works in schools and other settings to support children and young people. Our work is summarised by our three key messages as:

capacity building using evidence-based systemic approaches;
consultation with school staff and others to ’unstick’ barriers to learning; and,
working at an individual level, informed by psychological and therapeutic theories and practice.
The Service contributes to a wide range of local, regional and national initiatives, often on a multi-agency basis. We are a small, nurturing team in which everyone is encouraged to develop an area of special interest.

Blaenau Gwent is situated in south Wales, bordering the beautiful Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. Excellent transport links via the A465, M4 and the railway network bring Cardiff, Newport and Swansea within easy reach.

For further information or an informal discussion about the post please contact: Dr Robert Smith (Principal EP) (robert.smith@blaenau-gwent.gov.uk) or Rebecca Foster (Senior EP) (rebecca.foster@blaenau-gwent.gov.uk).

Access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.

Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process. The postholder will be required to complete an application for a Disclosure of Criminal Records.
