Summary

The Sport Team is responsible for the strategy, governance and co-ordination of sport in the UK and aims to encourage everyone to get active and engage in sport at every level. We work closely with our four arm's length bodies: UK Sport; Sport England; UK Anti-Doping; and the Sports Grounds Safety Authority.

The Sport Team covers areas including Olympic and Paralympic sport, professional sport, grassroots sports participation and physical activity, sports economy, diversity in sport, sport integrity (i.e. anti-doping and anti-corruption) and sport diplomacy.

We also work closely with other government departments, including the Department for Education and Department for Health and Social Care.

With exposure to some of the most exciting teams, leagues and grassroots organisations that are pushing hard to grow all levels of sport and get the nation more active, this is a great time to work on a high profile and fast moving policy area.

The role provides the opportunity to lead a dynamic team, responsible for driving the strategic direction for sport participation and physical activity policy policy across England and leading DCMS’s contribution to the health mission.

Key responsibilities include -

  • Setting policy on getting people active and increasing levels of participation in sport.
  • Sponsorship of Sport England.
  • Leading DCMS contribution to the Government’s health mission.
  • Supporting Ministerial parliamentary responsibilities in relation to sport participation.

Significant milestones over the next six months include -

  • Driving forward key departmental bids at the upcoming Spending Review.
  • Shaping future policy in relation to increasing physical activity rates.

The role includes line management of one SEO and two HEOs. With frequent exposure at ministerial and senior leader level.
