Job Vacancy: Assistant Director for Strategy & Architecture (Digital)

Location: Derbyshire County Council, County Hall, Matlock

Salary: Grade 16 £88,994 to £95,092 – (Inclusive of £20k market supplement 2 years)

Contract Type: Permanent, full-time flexible working, 2 days per week on site

Derbyshire County Council (DCC) is at an exciting stage in the evolution of it’s digital and IT services. With a new, progressive Director of Digital, leading a growing Digital Services team, centralising and streamlining all digital operations across it’s services, to transform the way DCC connects with residents, improves operational efficiencies, and fosters innovative solutions to meet the needs of it’s communities in the digital age.

To enable this corporate strategy, the Council is embarked on a programme of transformation and renewal, including replacement of core IT and Digital systems and transition towards a product and service, continuous development and improvement led operating model. The Council is fully committed to this journey, in making it easier for the County’s population of over 800,000 residents to engage with the Council and providing it’s 12,000 staff with the tools and technology they need to deliver truly exceptional, essential public services.

About the Role:

To deliver this strategic objective, DCC is building the capability and capacity of it’s IT and Digital leadership team. Reporting to the Director of Digital, the Assistant Director for Strategy & Architecture is a new, exciting senior leadership post within the Council’s Digital Services function. Leading a team of circa 10 staff, key priorities include crafting the Council’s first overarching IT, Digital and Data Architecture Strategy, to support delivery of it’s digital and corporate ambitions; mapping the technology estate, introducing world class industry standards and best practice in architecture design and delivery and building the inhouse capability of the Architecture function, visibly adding value to the business and enabling the sustained structured exploitation of new and innovative technology.

About the Successful Candidate:

Derbyshire County Council are seeking an exceptional Enterprise Architect and/or leader of an Architecture function, with experience of:

  • Building a high-performing, responsive, multi-disciplined Architecture Team, including for example Enterprise, Solutions and Technical architecture capabilities.
  • Crafting and delivering a real-world Architecture Strategy for a complex, service-based organisation, encompassing legacy and contemporary technologies and platforms e.g. Cloud, CRM, ERP, Web, Mobile etc.
  • Effective collegiate working across an IT and Digital function and with a wide range of internal and external delivery partners.
  • Leading awareness and adoption of industry standards, frameworks and best practice for Enterprise, Solutions, and Technical Architecture design and delivery, to enable the simplification and centralisation of complex business and technology processes.
  • Stakeholder management, with ability to articulate and translate complex technical concepts into simple to understand and measure business outcomes.
