Since being founded in 1961, Suffolk Wildlife Trust has led the way in conservation across Suffolk, protecting some of the county's most important wildlife areas. As a grassroots organisation, we’re passionate about ‘Bringing nature back’ by inspiring and empowering local communities to care for and act on behalf of nature, while managing our 50 nature reserves and advocating for wildlife.

As the Café Assistant at Carlton Marshes Visitor Centre, the post holder will mainly work within the kitchen area supporting our food and beverage service and delivering excellent service. This role is central to enhancing the visitor experience, supporting the café’s commercial success, and advocating Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s mission and strategic goals.

The post holder will as part of the Carlton team promote a welcoming atmosphere for visitors, actively encouraging them to support or become a Member of Suffolk Wildlife Trust, discover our activities and the wider reserve or get involved in volunteering across our many opportunities available.

It is essential that the successful application has strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, and confident preparing and serving food, maintaining cleaning procedures and works well in a fast-paced environment with staff and volunteers. Prior experience in similar roles, familiarity with stock control processes, and proficiency in EPOS till systems are desirable, as are barista skills and experience making specialty coffee beverages.

The role is on a casual worker basis based at Carlton Marshes near Lowestoft. Available hours offered will be during the visitor centre hours (Monday to Sunday 9:00am to 5:00pm) covering weekends, bank holidays and school holidays.

Under a casual worker agreement there are no set hours of work. Hours worked the rate of pay will be £11.44 per hour plus holiday pay.

To apply for this opportunity, please submit an application via our website by 9:00am on Wednesday 19 March 2025. The application process will include uploading a CV and cover letter.

The interviews are planned for Tuesday 25 March 2025 at Carlton Marshes Visitor Centre. Please indicate on the application your availability for interview.
