Summary

Overview:
We are looking for a qualified and experienced Youth Worker to lead on the delivery of our Youth Shed and Kids Shed sessions every Monday and Wednesday evening, with some additional working hours required for planning, admin and report writing.
The post requires a strong leader able to organise and support a small team of staff and volunteers to deliver face-to-face activities for local children and young people at our facility and around the local area. The post holder will plan and deliver on an agreed workplan and provide leadership and mentoring to a young person in the role of trainee youth support worker.
The postholder will also work with our team on progression towards the Welsh Youth Work Quality Mark and maintain standards for Investing in Volunteers (IiV).

The applicant has a JNC Professionally Qualified Youth Worker degree and is registered or able to register with the Education Workforce Council (EWC). We will not consider a related subject degree but may consider a level 3 youth work qualification if the applicant is working towards the degree level qualification.
Details:
Rate = £16.50 per hour.
Hours = 16hrs per week. (pro rata £30,784)

Key activities and responsibilities
Planning and organising Youth Shed and Kids Shed activities at our facility, ensuring activities run smoothly and safely.
• Delivering sessions for example organising games, positive activities and conversations, taking accountability for security and safe working
• Providing leadership and support to sessional staff and volunteers.
• Delivering positive activities for example sports, arts, cooking and gardening.
• Having conversations with children and young people, identifying the issues affecting.

• Identifying where targeted youth support is needed and facilitate connections with other groups.
• Helping ensure that all evidence of projects are properly documented, and that work is evaluated and reported in accordance with contractual commitments.

• Taking part in outreach activities, both independently and in partnership with other services.
• Engaging with a wide range of external stakeholders and developing relationships with them.
• Staying informed on legislation, local and national issues, and best practice in youth work.
• Ensuring child protection procedures are followed and that the safeguarding of young people is paramount.
• Carry out all duties in accordance with Brighter Futures policies on Health and Safety, Child Protection and Data Protection, and with relevant legislation.

Personal Specification
1. Your personality
You are Friendly, cheerful, positive and self-driven, able to work independently and as part of a team.
Confident and resilient when working with young people who sometimes show challenging or complex behaviours.

2. Education, qualifications or experience
Minimum Level 3 JNC qualified or relevant youth work qualification and experience
Experience of working with young people in a voluntary sector environment.
Experience of organising small scale events and/or project management.

3. Knowledge, skills and abilities
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to quickly establish positive relationships with children and young people.
Good organisational and administration skills.
Understanding and appreciation of the importance of monitoring and evaluation in a
youth work setting.
Positive about embracing challenge and change, open to experimenting, new ideas,
reflective practice and working with other organisations in a spirit of partnership.
Ability to prioritise effectively and enjoy multi-tasking in a busy environment.
A working understanding of safeguarding children and young people and how to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
