About the Job.
The purpose of this role is to provide support for a 9-year-old girl, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, significant sensory difficulties, and a profound learning disability.
This young person has a very happy nature and is both loving and affectionate towards her family and familiar people.
The PA will need to support this young person to help develop independent living skills and to take part in activities in the community.
There are 12 hours double handed hours available each week during all school holidays.
Days and times to be agreed at interview.
Responsible to - Directly to the employer
Main Tasks:
To provide support and build up a trusting relationship.
To take part in social activities, provide sensory opportunities and be open to trying new things.
To improve this young person’s social and life skills and promote independent living skills.
This young person is non-verbal but can use some gestures to make her wishes known and can lead carers to what she wants.
Although she has some food intolerances, she will eat most foods but cannot verbally express her preferences. She does not use a knife and fork, instead she uses her fingers.
This young person has no sense of danger, particularly stranger danger and will approach people she does not know.
She has very limited understanding of the world around her and no traffic awareness She must be always supervised, particularly by roads; the PA must always hold her hand or fasten her safely in her disability buggy.
Positive self-esteem and self-confidence should be promoted whilst undertaking any activities. She enjoys swimming, walking, going to the beach and the park.
This young person can display behaviours of concern under certain circumstances; she does get anxious around other children, in particular neuro typical children and she can be unsure of animals, in particular dogs.
Personal care will be required - to be carried out in a sensitive and caring manner.
Any other duties which may fall within the scope of this role, to be discussed and mutually agreed.
Person Specification:
Have previous experience of working with people living with autism and a learning disability.
It would be an advantage but not necessary to have knowledge of using visuals to aid understanding.
Establish a professional standard of care which should be always maintained and be prepared to undertake relevant training as required.
Undertake the role with due regard to the citizens physical, educational, social, and psychological needs.
Respect and safeguard the goods and property of the citizen.
Respect the privacy of the family and always uphold confidentiality.
Be punctual and reliable and have some degree of flexibility.
Hold a full driving licence. Should you be required to use your own vehicle for work purposes, you would be required to provide evidence of insurance for business cover.
Special Conditions:
