Summary
- The UEFA European Championships 2028 UK & Ireland - driving forward the Government’s work alongside partners on preparations to host and to maximise the tournament’s impact;
- The future pipeline of major sporting events - driving forward the Government's work, with partners, to secure, and successfully host, the world’s biggest and best sporting events, including the women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.
- Grassroots facilities delivery - overseeing the delivery of hundreds of millions into multi-sport grassroots facilities across the UK, as part of the EURO 2028 impact programme and to tackle inactivity, support the Health mission and building cohesive communities.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the Major Sporting Projects Delivery Directorate to work on the planning for the UK and Ireland hosting the men’s UEFA European Championships in 2028 (EURO 2028). The post-holder will play a key role in driving forward policy development on the UK Government's (UKG) approach to legacy and sustainability for the tournament and ensuring a robust benefits realisation and evaluation strategy is in place.
Key deliverables
- Develop policy on legacy and sustainability for EURO 2028, liaising with stakeholders internally and externally to develop the UKG’s position and ensure that is factored into a robust and ambitious multi-partner programme.
- Provide visible and effective leadership on the EURO 2028 Impact and Legacy programme, including through representing UKG on key governance forums established to manage the delivery of the National legacy programme.
- Provide advice and recommendations to DCMS Seniors and Ministers on the development of the Impact and Legacy plan, ensuring they have adequate opportunity to shape and refine the programme.
- Coordinate UKG input into the design of a comprehensive cross partner sustainability charter, ensuring key stakeholders across government are consulted throughout the development process.
- Implement a comprehensive approach to benefits realisation of the tournament objectives and support UKG input into the design of the programme-wide evaluation led by UK Sport.
