About the role

As a Benefits Officer, we will train you to accurately process and adjust claims for Council Tax Support, Housing Benefit, Free School Meals and Blue Badges and to register liable persons for Council Tax.

We receive claims, information and queries in multiple formats including: online, by email, by post and by telephone. All information is linked electronically to case references. Benefit Officers deal with individual cases allocated to their inboxes as well as managing caseloads within Supported Housing properties.

As a Benefits Officer, we will train you to accurately process and adjust claims for Council Tax Support, Housing Benefit, Free School Meals and Blue Badges and to register liable persons for Council Tax.

About you

We are looking for someone who has good numeracy and literacy skills, with the ability to learn and retain multiple processes and complex regulations. You must have the drive to continuously learn and develop, and to get the job done accurately and in a timely manner.

You must be committed to delivering a high standard of service to residents of the borough at all times and keen to provide timely and empathetic help that keeps our customers’ needs at the forefront of every interaction you make.

The role requires someone with good interpersonal skills, a flexible approach to work and the ability to work well under pressure either as part of a team or independently. You must have the drive to get the job done accurately and in a timely manner.

Once trained there will be progression opportunities based on accuracy and performance.
