The post would be suitable for any trainee who has experience at or above the level of completion of Foundation year two. Ideally the trainee should have started MRCP and have completed MRCP Part 1 or be
preparing for this. This post will be an integral part of Acute Oncology multidisciplinary team caring for cancer patients in the local area.
It will provide an individual with the opportunity to gain experience in managing haematology and oncology
patients in an outpatient and day unit setting. Whilst also supporting the acute assessment of patients and
facilitating their prompt initial management and admission, the post holder will have the opportunity to
develop skills and experience in Clinical Haematology, Oncology and Acute oncology. The post would be ideal
for acquiring competencies needed towards a national training number in Haematology or Oncology.
Previous post holders have successfully gained National Training numbers in Oncology and Haematology.
They would join our enthusiastic team to develop integrated Oncology services for the acute hospitals,
community hospitals and primary care in Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post will work
between our 2 acute hospital sites in Basingstoke & Winchester.
Applicants must be on the GMC register at time of interview.
There will be no out of hours or weekend clinical commitments for the post holder.

This post will primarily provide medical input for the provision of the Acute Oncology Service but will also provide medical support for Haematology and Oncology patients attending the chemotherapy units for clinics and treatment.
Clinical duties will include:
Participation in Acute Oncology Service - assessment, review, advice and intervention of patients receiving
Chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy.
Participation in inpatient Oncology Ward Rounds
Support Clinical Nurse Specialists in the monitoring of biochemistry and radiological significant find reports
Perform clinical procedures including clerking, observations, phlebotomy/cannulation
Assist Chemotherapy Unit with reactions and prescription queries
The post holder will, be required to undertake the administrative duties associated with care of patients.
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the major provider of hospital services to the population of North and mid Hampshire and surrounding areas. The hospitals in Basingstoke and Winchester provide a comprehensive range of acute services as well as being a tertiary referral centre for colorectal, liver, peritoneal carcinomatosis, haemophilia and pseudomyxoma surgery.
Services are provided across Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover sites.
General Pathology Services
Pathology services for the Hampshire Hospitals trust are provided on both the BNHH and RHCH sites. The
service has one management structure across both sites and is in accordance with the Strategic Review Of
Pathology Services 1995. Each service has a lead clinician. The Clinical Director of Pathology is Dr Nick
Cortes. Routine haematology and biochemistry are provided within Blood Sciences on both sites. GP
samples from across the geographical area are processed at the BNHH site.
