The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the department for economic growth. We support businesses to invest, grow and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the country. DBT’s International Marketing team is offering the rare opportunity for a Senior Marketing Campaign Manager to support its award-winning and innovative international marketing campaign.

The senior marketing campaign manager will work across the GREAT Global Trade and Investment (GTI) campaign, the UK Government’s flagship international marketing campaign. The GTI promotes the UK as a premium destination for overseas buyers and investors. It is a central part of the Government’s world-renowned GREAT Britain and Northern Ireland campaign, showcasing the best of what our whole nation has to offer to inspire the world and encouraging people to visit and do business, invest, and study in the UK.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic marketing team that sits within the wider marketing and communications team at DBT. Working alongside creative professionals across the department, wider government as well as with industry-leading creative and media agencies will provide you with an excellent platform to gain experience and develop your marketing career. You will be responsible for ensuring our communication and marketing activity is insight-based, audience-focused and delivers measurable outcomes in support of DBT business priorities. You will work collaboratively across the Department and the international network to provide campaign leadership.

If you are a practical and hardworking individual, looking to expand your skills and experience in one of the best international marketing teams in Whitehall, this role is for you.

The role will allow you to work on a wide range of projects spanning the marketing mix, from above-the-line and PR campaigns to low cost and no cost activities. You will play an integral part of the campaign development and delivery as well as taking individual accountability for leading projects and work-streams.  You will be expected to support the international marketing team as well as our international network across the world.

  • Deliver effective, measurable and transparent marketing outcomes through campaigns –paid and low-cost/no-cost.
  • Manage one of our media/creative agencies, ensuring they are delivering on fast paced projects, working closely with them on finance and project delivery.
  • Develop audience driven, evidence based integrated marketing campaigns in support of DBT priorities, underpinned by robust evaluation.
  • Deliver against international campaign objectives by taking ownership of paid activations across channels – lead generation and awareness.
  • Project manage key campaign moments across overseas markets, ensuring the target audience is front of mind in all delivery.
  • Support the production of campaign content/collateral and briefing products to support the strategic approach.
  • Support on commissions from Ministers, special advisers and senior teams across DBT as business priorities emerge.
  • Maximise the return on investment from budgets allocated for marketing activity and ensure spend is properly managed.
  • Review campaign progress, analyse performance and identify impact – taking responsibility for mitigation or amplification where applicable.
  • Work with external agencies and the department’s in-house creative team to create compelling content and material to support campaigns. Ensure content is engaging and delivered on time to a high standard.
  • Work closely with insight and evaluation colleagues to ensure campaign strategies are insight led and outcomes measurable. Work with them to develop reporting dashboards as required by the leadership team.
  • Line manage a Marketing Campaign Manager with the potential for further line management responsibilities in the future.

The successful candidate will also join the Government Communication Service (GCS). GCS is the professional body for more than 7,000 public service communicators working in government departments, agencies and arm’s length bodies. People work in government communications because what we do matters. We explain the objectives and policies of the government of the day. We provide clarity and reassurance to the public at times of crisis. We support businesses to grow. We protect our environment. We help those in need to access support.

As a GCS member, you will have access to: a network of skilled communicators sharing best practice; a tailor-made development curriculum, unique to government and public sector communicators; network events and more!
