The role of the HMCTS Communications and Engagement Directorate is to:

Enhance and protect our reputation.
Facilitate corporate communication and engagement with internal and external stakeholders and users.
Advise, challenge and support the organisation to communicate and engage effectively.
The Team

The team is made up of communications professionals with specialist disciplines who are: delivering the organisation's communications strategy; working with communications partners in Ministry of Justice and Judicial Office; delivering operational communications activities; and enabling others across the organisation to deliver and improve their own communications.

The team is designed around three core functions:

External stakeholder and campaign communications
Internal communications
Communication channels including planning, insight and evaluation
We provide an integrated communications service – recognising internal and external communications requirements - that supports delivery of the organisation's objectives. We will listen to the wants and needs of internal and external audiences to ensure that we are communicating effectively.

We are increasingly using data and insight to improve our communications activities to ensure that we have the right channels in place to reach the right people with the right message.

About the role

We’re looking for an enthusiastic person with good planning and organising skills who likes reporting on and working with data. You’ll support your line manager and everyone across the Communications Team to plan and evaluate our corporate communication activities.

You’ll identify and suggest improvements to our corporate communications activities based on sound insight and data. This includes using a range of software packages to measure and report on our internal and external activities.

You’ll attend regular planning and evaluation and evaluation meetings and be asked to lead on drafting and finalising detailed evaluation reports that include actionable insights and recommendations for improvement. You will have a privileged position and opportunity to shape our future communications activities and develop skills to offer advice and guidance on using appropriate content across our various channels. You’ll monitor and evaluate feedback from our different audiences and use these insights to influence future planning.

Your role as the Communications Officer (Planning, Insight and Evaluation) encompasses several key aspects (but not limited to):

Creating and building online surveys and analysis of their results.
Lead on our press and social media monitoring and send daily email alerts – using different software systems, while building and maintaining our search queries.
Data collation for our internal and external digital channels.
Maintain our communications planning grid, liaising with the wider communication team and producing weekly forward look plans.
Maintain the team’s risk register by commissioning relevant colleagues, sharing feedback and submitting to the risk and assurance team.
Comms sub-group secretariat and linked responsibilities.
Regularly review benchmarks using other government departments and public sector organisation’s results and channel averages.
Support regular planning activities including meeting with teams across the Ministry of Justice and its agencies.
Support on analysing and interpreting data and various information sources to produce actionable insights – using evidence to inform future activities.
Support line manager on other planning, evaluation and insight activities.
Monitor comms team mailboxes – allocating and actioning enquiries.
Develop constructive and productive working relationships with the wider MoJ and government communications network to ensure best practice.
The postholder will be expected to work flexibly and undertake any other duties reasonably requested.

The ideal candidate for this position should demonstrate:

Essential

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders in a clear and engaging manner, demonstrating the ability to manage relationships effectively.
Strong digital skills and ability to work with various software tools, platforms and solutions.
Strong planning and organising skills with the ability to work well under pressure to manage competing demands, deadlines and priorities.
Proven experience in analysing and interpreting complex data with the ability to develop evidence-based recommendations to inform future activities and continuous improvement.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, ensuring accurate and high-quality work.
Desirable

Experience of using qualitative and quantitative insight/survey tools, analytic software and social and media monitoring tools to assess the effectiveness of digital and social media activities and inform future communication campaigns.
Experience and/or familiarity of comms evaluation and monitoring software such as Google Analytics, Brandwatch, MS Excel, social media management software.
