About the role.


We are looking for a high-quality reporter to join our news reporting team covering the Southeast.




This is a 12-month fixed-term role covering a secondment, offering an exciting opportunity to work as part of a highly respected
team known for its speed, accuracy, and commitment to first-class journalism.




Based in Kent or Sussex, you will report on all aspects of the region – from the Channel crossing crisis and court cases to
inquests, exclusives, and uplifting off-diary stories. You will be expected to produce accurate, fast, impartial, and clearly
written copy in line with PA’s core editorial standards.




Working closely with photographers and video journalists on the patch, you will also take stills and shoot video where required.




Developing strong contacts in politics, the courts, and the wider community will be essential, as will using social media to
source exclusive and breaking news stories. This role also requires collaboration with reporters across the country and engagement
with both local and national PA customers.



Key responsibilities.



* Reporting on key news stories across the South East of England, including politics, court cases, and breaking news
* Producing fast, accurate, and impartial copy that meets PA’s editorial standards.
* Working closely with PA’s photography and video journalists, taking stills and shooting video when necessary.
* Using social media to source exclusive and breaking news stories.
* Developing strong contacts across the region, including in politics, the courts, and the wider community.
* Collaborating with reporters in other regions and supporting their coverage when required.
* Working closely with PA customers, responding to their needs and delivering high-quality content.



What you’ll need.



* Extensive experience of reporting, ideally at an agency or daily newspaper level.
* Up-to-date knowledge of media law and a strong interest in politics.
* Minimum 100wpm shorthand.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* NCTJ or equivalent qualification.
* Proven ability to verify and source social media content.
* A full driving licence – the patch is large, and travel will be necessary.
