The directorate is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates and Information and Digital, Data and Technology.
All parts of the government security system are undergoing rapid and exciting change as part of the Transforming Government Security programme. Improved security standards and a new professional framework are at the heart of these changes that will ensure government is better able to protect citizens and provide vital public services by understanding and addressing security risks.
Protective Security Centre Operations are a dedicated and highly skilled team, responsible for processing and assessing high volumes of security applications for staff and contractors across 15 Whitehall departments. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work within an innovative, professional, and evolving unit, and to play an important part in delivering security vetting functions to the Home Office and other customer departments and agencies.
The Personnel Risk Management team is responsible for the delivery of National Security Vetting Aftercare across the 15 customer departments to the Personnel Security Standards set by Cabinet Office. Aftercare explores anything of security concern, between periods of normal vetting review, which potentially affects an individual holding a national security vetting clearance. It aims to reduce personnel security risks by engaging with staff and their managers to identify and resolve potential vulnerabilities early.
You will be able to start in post with SC clearance, however you must successfully obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance once in post (if not already held). During the period where you hold SC clearance, you will only perform elements of the role which fall under SC clearance. If your DV clearance application is unsuccessful, you may enter Restructuring, Redeployment or Redundancy.
This role is suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. The team are based in London – 2 Marsham Street. The post holder will be required to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time at this location due to the need to access secure accommodation and documentation. The remainder of the working time can be spent working from home.

Your duties will include but will not be limited to:
- Investigating and assessing complex vetting issues, identifying potential security risks and making decisions on people’s ability to retain security clearance at CTC, SC and DV level.
- Conducting investigative interviews, briefing staff on security vulnerabilities, considering where security risks to the business can be handled in post, and appropriately escalating any high-risk cases. The secure handling of highly sensitive and personal details in line with data protection rules when considering personnel risks.
- Advising on how to handle insider threat issues and providing personnel security advice.
- Providing advice and vetting casework advice to team members on personnel security risks and threat mitigation.
- Working proactively with colleagues across the security community, recruitment partners, and the business areas.
Note: This is not an exclusive list, and the post holder will be required to perform any additional duties reasonably expected of them within the scope of the grade and within the limits of their skill, competence and training.
Line Management
