Your role involves writing informative, quality Education, Health, Care and Needs Assessment (EHCNA) psychological advice using existing Bristol EPS processes and templates and submitted by agreed timeframes.

Provide high quality and timely professional advice to the LA so that all statutory processes can be carried out within legal frameworks. Ensure parents and young people are at the centre of processes to support young people’s additional learning needs.



Key Responsibilities:

Meeting statutory responsibilities for EHCNAs through the identification, assessment and review of young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) from 0 to 25.
Supporting and helping teachers, parents, carers and others to identify and meet needs and to prevent or resolve difficulties with young people’s learning, behaviour and social and emotional development.
Taking appropriate responsibility as corporate parents for children in care and ensuring that any safeguarding concerns are acted on through the appropriate channels and legal framework.
Taking ownership for continuing professional development in line with HCPC requirements.
Quality assuring (using BCC guidance) and adapting work to take account of changing requirements and incorporating quality assurance feedback within the provision of advice.
Communicating well with all stakeholders
Gathering information and carrying out assessment using the most appropriate methods. Generally this will be face to face but may sometimes involve phone calls, emails and remote meetings and assessments.



Key requirements:

Post-graduate qualification in Educational Psychology at least Masters level (if qualified prior to 2007), Doctoral qualification in educational psychology, completed or in progress.
Be registered with HCPC.
Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or equivalent including the following: Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer/Edge, Teams and to use applications and technology as appropriate.
An understanding of the UK educational system for both mainstream and special school sectors.
A good understanding of legislation, national guidelines and other recent ongoing developments and their impact on the work and direction of educational psychology, including the Equality Act 2010, Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
Experience of successful application of psychological knowledge and skills to promote the inclusion and development of children and young people from 0-25.
Good interpersonal skills including tact, empathy, flexibility, negotiation and conflict management skills.
The ability to work independently to prioritise and meet deadlines.



Desirable:

Understanding of key psychology approaches, including strengths and values-based psychology, consultation and evidence informed approaches.
