We have an exciting opportunity for a Waste Operative to join our Portering team. This position is well-suited to a team player with a customer focused approach and is looking to gain experience within a healthcare environment.
Job Role:
• Keep ward and department disposal cupboards clear of all waste at all times and move to outside collection points, ensuring that all waste remains segregated during transportation.
• To be proficient in driving/using the relevant vehicles/trailers within the hospital environment and when collecting from the external sites that are covered by the Trust.
• Conduct daily tug/van maintenance checks to ensure, lights, horn, tyres etc., are all in working order and health and safety compliant. Report all defects with tugs/equipment/van to supervisor/Line manager
• To undertake a weekly cleaning of electric vehicles trailers and Van.
• To ensure that clinical waste containers are kept locked at all times.
• To ensure that clinical waste containers are tagged with the correct colour coded waste stream.
• Cleaning of Domestic Waste Bins with pressure washer, as requested.
• To keep working area clean and tidy
• The role requires the individual to stand, walk, lift, kneel, bend and crouch for long periods.

The Successful Candidate
The ideal candidate will have good communication skills, work well under pressure, able to work alone and as part of a team and be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the service.
The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable adjustment.

This role is subject to Enhanced with Barred list DBS disclosure.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
• Full UK Driving Licence - Confident driving a 3.5 tonne van
• Ability to work as part of team as well as independently
• Ability to take and understand basic instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively with Supervisors and colleagues
• Ability to manipulate portering equipment such as bed push, trolleys, cages etc.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to changing demands at short notice
• Willingness to undertake mandatory training and any other training identified by the service / organisation.
• Flexible approach
• Demonstrates a customer / patient focused approach
