Summary
Job summary – A Children’s Nursery Catering Assistant to join the White Stork Nursery team and contribute to creating a nurturing and healthy environment for the little ones in our care. The primary responsibilities will be to support the Nursery Chef with the creation, preparation and serving of nutritious and delicious meals and snacks, that cater to the specific dietary needs and preferences of children aged 6 months and upwards.
Main duties and responsibilities –
• Support with the execution of a seasonal menu plan that meets the nutritional requirements and dietary needs of young children, incorporating a variety of flavours, textures and food groups.
• Support with the preparation of well-balanced meals and snacks from scratch, ensuring high-quality ingredients.
• Maintain a clean and organised kitchen, adhering to strict hygiene and safety standards to ensure the health and wellbeing of the children.
• Support with the collaboration with parents, staff and management to accommodate specific dietary needs, allergies, and cultural preferences, whilst ensuring all meals are appealing and enjoyable for the children.
• Support the creation of a positive and engaging dining experience, by supporting the design of attractive food presentations and incorporating fun and educational elements, that encourage healthy eating habits.
• Support the monitoring of inventory, ensuring the availability of fresh ingredients and supplies, whilst minimising waste and maintaining cost efficiency.
• Stay informed about current nutritional guidelines and industry trends relating to childhood nutrition, and feedback this to support the continual enhancement of the menu and meal preparation methods.
• Foster a warm and friendly atmosphere in the dining areas, interacting with children, staff, and parents, and promoting positive eating habits, table manners, and healthy food choices.
• To adhere to all White Stork Nursery policies and procedures.
• To participate in staff meetings, training and self-development activities including supervisions.
Requirements –
• Interest in a profession as a chef or cook, preferably in a childcare or similar environment.
• Catering interest or qualification or similar knowledge and training.
• Interest in childhood nutrition, dietary requirements, and food safety regulations.
• Interest in being creative and interested to design appealing and child friendly menus.
• Strong organisational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with children, parents, and staff.
• A friendly and patient demeanour with a genuine love for working with children.
• A high level of cleanliness, attention to detail, and adherence to hygiene and safety standards.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and schedules in a dynamic childcare setting.
