Highway and Transport Services – Enhancing Lives, Building Communities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trees and Woodland Officer to join our Rights of Way and Countryside Service.

The team are responsible for the management, maintenance and enforcement of over 6650 miles of public highway and rights of way; including acting in the statutory position as Highway Authority. They also hold responsibility for the management and maintenance of countryside sites owned by Wiltshire Council; including the management of around 500,000 trees on these sites.

As a Trees and Woodland Officer, you will undertake regular tree health and safety inspections of trees on land owned by Wiltshire Council along with trees within the public highway, as well as investigating reports received regarding tree health, safety and damage to neighbouring land and properties. Working with contractors, you will plan, commission and oversee schemes of works to be undertaken on our trees and land and carry out routine safety and quality control audits of the work being completed. Other responsibilities will include providing specialist, expert professional advice on landscape planning proposals and solution focused advice on trees and hedgerow management plans.

We are looking for a candidate who holds a Level 6 / Degree qualification in Arboriculture, or can demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and experience. A LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection certification and certification in the use of countryside management tools, will be essential. You will bring with you good interpersonal and influencing skills demonstrating the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships as well as proficiency in ICT and planning and organisational skills.
