Providing Adult Carers who care for an individual over the age of 18 years with a variety of information, support, informal advocacy, signposting as well as carers assessments and facilitating carer groups. You will be based at our Romford office and be part of a busy team, working closely with both statutory and voluntary organisations.
Supporting Carers who look after individuals with the following illnesses or disabilities:
• Frail and elderly
• Mental Illness
• Physical and sensory impairment
• A dementia or memory loss
• Autism or learning disabled

This is a 15 hour a week post (currently 1-year fixed contract – with possibility of extension) Working days: Tues, Wens, Thurs at an hourly rate of £13.58

Job Title: Carers Support Information Adviser
Responsible to: Havering Operations Manager
Liaison with: External Informal Carers, Health, Social Services, Voluntary & Statutory Sector.

Hours of Work: 15 Hours a week
3 days: Tues, Wens, Thurs (hours to be agreed)

Job Purpose: To provide information, support and advocacy to
informal carers and cared-for in Havering.

Main Task

Identify and work with informal carers and cared-for living in Havering (based in our Romford Office).

Assess the needs of the carers referred to the support service and liaise closely with the Local Authority, Health Professionals and other Voluntary Sector Agencies.

Provide support, information, advocacy as well as Carer Assessments via; home visits, telephone support, emotional support, peer support groups, in house appointments, drop-in sessions, signposting and building links with Statutory and Voluntary sector partners.

Organize and facilitate support groups for carers as appropriate.

Support the work of Carers Centre SA Ltd by organizing and attending social events, training days, conferences and other events as required.

Identify training/support needs of carers and assist with establishing appropriate training support packages.


Record Keeping/Monitoring

Maintain a database of carers (Training Given) on Charity Log. Maintain appropriate records in accordance with the policy and procedures of Carers Centre SA Ltd and undertake duties and responsibilities in accordance with all policies and procedures of Carers Centre SA Ltd.


Additional Responsibilities

Promote the service and raise carers awareness through networking and liaising with statutory and voluntary agencies as well as the general public and Ethnic Minority Communities.

Provide input to the Carers Newsletter

Assist and attend regular Havering Forums/Carers Week & social events as well as Training Awareness Workshops.

Participate in training as identified by the management including safeguarding.

Undertake such additional duties, responsibilities and tasks that the management may from time to time consider necessary.

Person Specification

Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.

Have an understanding and the ability to show empathy with carers issues.

A commonsensical, yet sympathetic attitude to people under stress.

Excellent communication and listening skills.

Having sufficient knowledge and skill to be able to use computers e.g word, emails, internet searches, database.

Desirable

An understanding of the requirement of confidentiality and the Data Protection Act 2018 (Induction Training Given).

Safeguarding Adults, trained or willingness to attend training (Mandatory).

Experience of information/advice work.

Knowledge and experience of work within community care, voluntary sector and/or statutory sector.

Understanding multi-agency working.
