In this role, you'll be at the forefront of delivering the Environment Agency’s ambitious plans. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead and inspire teams, manage significant investments, and drive impactful projects that protect and enhance our environment.
You'll be accountable for delivering programmes worth over £1bn, focusing on flood risk management, environmental protection, and navigation investments. Your leadership will ensure the performance, efficiency, and productivity of Integrated Delivery Teams, including Delivery Partners and their supply chains. By implementing safe, sustainable and effective risk management processes, you'll will lead and drive a truly collaborative team delivering value for money and tangible benefits for people and places. You will collaborate with local teams and seek to optimise delivery, drive innovation and deliver efficiencies right across the programme.
In this role, you'll secure the necessary resources and collaborate with external partners and specialist services. You'll provide centres of expertise and excellence in project and programme delivery, ensuring that all projects within your geographic portfolio are executed effectively.
Your role will involve leading engagement with Delivery Partners, managing key relationships, and resolving operational issues. With oversight of a range of complex schemes and values, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring work is channelled to the appropriate Delivery Partners and that relevant targets and milestones are met.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents.

The team
The team you lead will include approximately 200 Project Delivery Professionals. You will be part of a larger Department where your role is replicated elsewhere across the country. One team working will be important as will maintaining common and consistent working practices. The Department of Project and Programme Delivery has circa 700 staff.
Experience/skills required
Essential:
• Management of large-scale projects, programmes and portfolios.
• Ability to manage a range of low and high complexity projects and programmes at the same time
• Supply Chain Management experience of commercial arrangements in an enterprise approach. Senior player that can navigate the political landscape and is credible in the areas of Flood and Coastal Risk Management, Environmental planning and regulation and Navigation.

Educational Requirements:
Relevant experience is recognised as much as academic qualifications. Professional memberships are encouraged as are Degree level qualifications or similar ideally in one of the following disciplines, Civil Engineering, Programme Management, Business Management, Supply Chain Management.

Qualified in or will commit to working towards the MPLA Major Projects Leadership Academy.
