Summary


An exciting opportunity has risen for a Specialist Grade Doctor in Virology [NHSE Specialist Pay scale - MC70] to join the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) Infection Sciences team. The post holder will be responsible along with medical microbiology / virology colleagues to provide services to Infection Sciences. NCA Infection Science laboratories are located at Salford and Oldham, this role will mainly be based at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

You shall have a full registration and license to practice with the GMC, have completed a minimum of 12 years’ medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) of which a minimum of 6 years should have been in clinical virology or other infection related specialties. Equivalent years’ experience in a relevant speciality from other medical grades including from overseas will also be considered.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others within and outside the organisation. The candidate should have a track record for implementing change, coupled with a desire to improve and succeed in this role. The main purpose of the job is to provide a clinical infection service to the NCA, based at Salford and Oldham which will offer services to all hospital sites of the NCA. This includes clinical liaison work, infection control doctor duties, supporting diagnostic laboratory service and promotion of antimicrobial stewardship. The post holder will complement and develop existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge and expertise in Clinical Virology.

The appointee will, together with senior microbiologist / virologist colleagues, primarily be responsible for the provision of comprehensive, efficient, and cost effective clinical and diagnostic virology services to the users of the Care Organisations of Bury, Rochdale and Oldham (BRO) and Salford (SCO). An initial followed by annual review of duties will take place with the Clinical Director of Infection Sciences or Clinical Lead for virology as part of the job planning process. During the initial job planning meeting, a detailed breakdown of direct clinical care and supporting activities will be agreed. The precise arrangements will depend on the needs of the service, the interests of the individual and agreement with colleagues. Flexibility is expected with some duties requiring cross-site working across the Northern Care Alliance.
