Summary
We are looking for an exceptional individual who would like an opportunity of working as a Teenage Cancer Trust Youth Support Coordinator for Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Cancer Services within a highly respected play and youth services team. You will need a relevant qualification in youth work, health play specialism, psychology, social work, or teaching as well as extensive, relevant experience of working with young people in a social/healthcare setting.
You will need to enjoy working with TYA, be emotionally resilient as well as have compassion, sensitivity, and a sense of humour. This post will work within the YP inpatient ward, supporting patients who are admitted to the ward and will be vital in reducing the anxiety surrounding hospital treatments. You will be proactive in creating and maintaining an age-appropriate environment throughout the YP’s area and facilitate group activities and individual therapeutic support sessions with patients.
Working alongside a supportive and diverse team of play and youth professionals who will support you in your role and a leadership team who will actively support your professional development, this post is responsible for providing individually tailored and group support to YP. Engaging easily with TYA and working effectively with your MDT colleagues to use therapeutic techniques creatively to enhance the TYA’s hospital experience. The post holder will have the responsibility to support and supervise junior members of staff and mentor students. This role will give the post holder the opportunity to develop leadership skills in organising staff rotas, assessing service needs and referrals.
