The majority of the post-holder’s daytime work will be in Perioperative Medicine (POM) and associated specialties, with dedicated time allocated to projects (teaching, academic, quality improvement, governance) to support the service and the fellow’s own personal career development. In addition, the successful candidate will have a dedicated educational

This post offers the opportunity for a senior clinical fellow to obtain advanced competencies in Perioperative Medicine. The post has been created to:

We expect this fellowship to enable the post holder to gain expertise in all aspects of POM with particular emphasis on the peri-operative assessment of high-risk surgical patients including CPET, anaesthesia for major surgery, pre-operative assessment and CPET. Following the publication of the 2021 syllabus, the minimum level of training this fellowship is expected to deliver complies with the requirements for the Special Interest Area (SIA) in POM.
However, candidates are also encouraged to look at Annexe E of the 2010 syllabus, for the training requirements for Advanced POM. They will be encouraged to look beyond the syllabus to further develop their own interests. Additional modules can also be undertaken, provided training is in accordance with RCOA guidance. This will be decided between the trainee, educational supervisor, and the respective module lead. Module options at each site can be seen in Annexe A.
2. Academic and Management
Successful applicants will be expected to complete training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), support ongoing departmental research. This includes supporting ongoing trials at both sites,as well as support in establishing original research if applicable.
