About you and this role:
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to become and Discipline Engineer Manager for a UKAS Type C Inspection Body. Ideally you would be Chartered and a practicing Category 1 inspector to UKAS RG2 but Category 2 inspectors with a drive to excel are encouraged to apply for the position. It’s important that you maintain and fosters an environment of trust, high morale, caring, humility and success.
Responsibilities:
Carry out examinations in accordance with Written Schemes of Examinations (WSEs).
Draw up or certify WSEs. Review WSEs at appropriate intervals for continued suitability, modifying when appropriate.
Conduct design verifications for new and repair of Pressure equipment ensuring compliance to design codes, European and UK regulations as well as corporate standards.
Work with other functions, technology teams, outside professional bodies and colleagues to set and adopt strategies and policies of the Barry site and the culture to promote them.
Contribute Internal and External audits to help maintain the departments accreditation.
Produce, review and update department procedures to maintain department quality system.
Communicate and co-operate with mechanical maintenance and project groups throughout Dow to facilitate achievement of common or complimentary goals.
Conduct validation trials of new RVI equipment and NDT techniques.
Qualifications:
If not already obtained the candidate should be actively working towards chartership status
Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical or Materials Science.
At least 3 years working within and engineering discipline associated with in-service inspection of pressure systems.
Experience and knowledge should cover a range of activities (e.g. design, manufacture, inspection, operation, maintenance) associated with pressure vessels, heat exchangers, safety protective devices, rotating equipment, fabrication, construction, testing, design codes, H&S legislation, equipment maintenance, planning and computer-based systems. Such experience should also have carried a high degree of responsibility.
Preferred Skills:
Category 1 Inspection engineer as per UKAS RG2
Chartered Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers or Materials.
The applicant would ideally have experience in
Inservice inspection of Shell and HRSG boilers
Facilitating external and internal auditors of EN17020 (or similar Quality Management Systems)
Developed/modified quality procedures to satisfy any observations/mandatory actions raised from audits.
