Mitie Care & Custody (C&C) is driven by a bold vision: to establish HMP Millsike as a place of restoration and rehabilitation, where prisoners can unlock their full potential and make meaningful, positive changes in their lives. We are excited by the opportunity Millsike presents: a blank canvas on which we can paint a bright future for our prisoners. Our mission is clear: to create an environment that empowers, inspires, and supports individuals to re-enter society with hope, purpose, and a life plan. To achieve this, we will set a culture of rehabilitation and restoration underpinned by integrity and high expectations. Prisoners will experience a dramatic shift from traditional prison environments. Millsike will be a vibrant, bustling community, teeming with industry, activity and opportunities for personal growth. Above all, we will ensure our approach offers a deep sense of safety/respect, through a supportive, uplifting environment, that helps prisoners to see their potential and that unlocks a brighter future for all.
Job objectives and responsibilities
We are seeking a dedicated professional to carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance in line with our contractual obligations. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with our company's safe systems of work, adhering to statutory obligations as well as Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) requirements.
Timeliness is crucial, and you will be responsible for rectifying damage and defects within agreed timescales. Upon completing maintenance tasks, you will update our maintenance management system to ensure that all information is accurate. Additionally, you will complete all necessary documentation, ensuring it is accurate, complete, current, and easily accessible.
Collaboration with subcontractors is essential, as you will ensure that all legislative, company, and contractual standards are met. You will also maintain tools and equipment in a serviceable condition, ready for use, to avoid any delays in achieving required standards.
Safety is a priority, so you will handle, transport, and store equipment and materials securely and correctly at all times. The role may require you to undertake emergency out-of-hours call-outs to maintain the center's facilities. Lastly, you will manage notifications of changes to the establishment, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
The site is a 24-hour 365-day operation, and the expectation is that the engineering team will work to a shift rota pattern and offer out of hours call out functions
If you are committed to maintaining high standards and ensuring a safe working environment, we encourage you to apply.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate for this position will hold accreditation to the 18th Edition of the New Wiring Regulations, also known as BS 7671, as updated in January 2019 by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). They should possess relevant experience in providing electrical maintenance services within a large and complex environment. Basic to intermediate IT skills are necessary, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with some experience in updating systems.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as is the ability to take notes effectively. The candidate should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and be self-motivated. A substantial practical background in various building services disciplines is required, encompassing heating, hot water, ventilation, refrigeration, environmental systems, electrical power and distribution, and public health.
The candidate must be a team player, flexible within contracted hours, and exhibit a positive, ‘can do' attitude. An intuitive and proactive nature is important, along with high moral standards and absolute integrity. This combination of skills and experience will ensure success in this role.
As a business, Mitie Care & Custody is committed to diversity and inclusion and we would welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds including veterans, those looking for a career change, and people who have experience in social care or a learning environment. Full training will be given where applicable, and we would encourage anyone who might be thinking about a role in a secure establishment to get in touch.
