We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our occupational therapy team covering the adult acute inpatient mental health wards and psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Swallownest Court in the form of an Occupational Therapy Assistant.

If you have a keen interest in working in a mental health setting, with adults currently in an acute mental health ward setting and a passion for supporting recovery through occupation, then this is the opportunity for you to make a positive difference.

If you don't already have a Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant subject, RDaSH are offering this post alongside the opportunity for you to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification [relevant to your role].

As an apprentice within RDaSH you will be given the opportunity to gain experience, learn work-related skills and obtain all the tools needed to thrive.

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. Around 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying. This leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

Whether you already work for us or are joining the Trust and NHS for the first time, apprenticeships can help you to develop the skills, knowledge and know-how in order to embark on a successful and fulfilling career within the health service.

Working alongside the Occupational Therapists and other OTA to provide person-centred care and intervention with a view to promoting independence amongst the patient group and reduce length of hospital admission. You will contribute to the delivery of groups, support individualised interventions and assist with care planning, as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team, including nursing colleagues, psychological therapies, medical staff team and nursing assistants.

To carry out individual therapeutic intervention programmes and feedback relevant information according to agreed assessment framework and treatment aims identified by the Occupational Therapist.

To assist the Occupational Therapist to carry out community based individual assessments.

To work with service users to develop independent living skills and work towards individual recovery and vocational goals in preparation for discharge, as directed.

To carry out agreed Occupational Therapy interventions with service userswithout direct supervision of senior staff in community locations and service users’ homes as needed and directed by OT.

To carry out group work and contribute to regular evaluation of groups, in conjunction with service users and multi-disciplinary team and ensure a balanced programme of activities.

To provide accurate, relevant and timely verbal and written information regarding patient progress.

Promote meaningful occupation within the patient group.
