Summary


Ward 3 at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham is a friendly fast paced 24 bedded Orthopaedic Oncology Ward. We treat primarily elective patients from their diagnostic biopsies and scans through to definitive therapeutic surgeries. We also care for patients having arthroplasty surgery's, and joint revision surgeries.. The age range of our patients is from 17 to elderly.

As a nursing team, we have made vast improvements to develop our nursing processes to ensure that we provide the best in nursing care to our patients. We pride ourselves in ensuring that we consistently challenge ourselves to provide the best care to our patients to ensure they are able to recover from their operation and return home with an improved quality of life. We work closely with MacMillan Nurses to support both patients and their families.

On Ward 3 the focus of nursing and physiotherapy care is streamlining pathways and process and ensuring that patients receive the best care possible.

Main duties of the job are to provide safe effective care to the patients in our care from admission to discharge. Good time management and communication with all members of the AHP team ensures we all pull together as a team with a common goal.

Administrating medicines as prescribed adhering to NMC guidelines, providing wound care for complex wounds under the supervision of the Tissue Viability Team, assisting our patients to get back on their feet with guidance from the physiotherapy team and ensuring surgical and medical plans of care are followed through at all times.
