Imagine being faced with a world of exciting possibilities that could ultimately enable you to support our members and help shape the health policies of the future. As the UK’s largest trade union and professional body for nursing, we support over half a million members with unwavering loyalty and total commitment. We represent and develop them, support their practice and lobby on their behalf to make a positive difference to their working lives.
We're accredited with Investors in People Silver Standard. Our people are our greatest asset, and we want people who can contribute to our purpose in line with our values.
As a Senior RCN Officer you’ll use your existing line management skills, Trade Union knowledge and experience with HR employment processes, along with your positive attitude, to deliver advice and representation to our members who are facing employment and professional issues.
You’ll also work to influence and negotiate on behalf of our members and build relationships with health and social care providers across your patch.
You’ll manage your own case load of complex cases and supervise the cases of your team of RCN Officers and RCN Accredited representatives to deliver high quality, accurate and timely advice and support to our members in all health care settings across the Lothian and Borders, Lanarkshire and State Hospital Patch.
Taking care of our existing members will be your primary role, but you’ll also see the possibilities that new members can bring. A key part of what you do will be to suggest innovative approaches to grow our membership.
To join us as a Senior RCN Officer, you must hold an NMC registration as a nurse or midwife.
As well as exceptional customer service, to join us you’ll need an in-depth knowledge of health and social care issues, equality and diversity, and employment relations.
You’ll need to demonstrate excellent line management skills and the ability to analyse and scrutinise complex data and documents so you can advise and represent our members on matters relating to employment processes, professional practice and education, as well as supporting your team to do the same.
You will need to have good communication skills, be able to challenge and negotiate skilfully and be able to build effective, professional relationships with a range of stakeholders across a variety of health and care settings.
You will need to be able to travel within Scotland to enable us to support and advocate for our members when required.
To succeed at the Royal College of Nursing all you need to do is think bigger, better and brighter. And with an attitude like that, anything’s possible.
What we offer you
We expect you to look after our members. And we expect you to be rewarded for it. We offer an impressive range of benefits, a broad range of learning development opportunities and an award-winning health and wellbeing programme. We offer annual leave up to 32 days plus bank holidays and three additional days for the Christmas break plus generous maternity, adoption, paternity, and shared parental leave packages.
*We offer a competitive pay structure with annual pay progression until you reach the top of the salary scale. We normally offer new employees the first point of the salary range, although you may be able to negotiate a higher starting salary depending on your skills, experience and current salary.
We are a diverse organisation and understand everyone has different needs and many of our employees enjoy flexible working enabling them to deliver results whilst having a good work life balance. Our hybrid working model allows for up to 60% of your working time to be carried out from home. At least 40% of your working time will be spent working in person.
