The Oxford Eye Hospital and its consultant body has an active research portfolio. Participation in research through the writing up of clinical studies and case reports is encouraged. The Medical Retina Consultants are also part of the cataract surgical team. Fellows have the opportunity to access cataract surgery but only during weekend lists, there is no weekday theatre allocation within this Fellowship. As well as providing for general ophthalmic needs of the local population, the Oxford Eye Hospital receives tertiary and quaternary referral of complex disease so that Fellows can expect a broad exposure across medical retina. The fellowship comprises a bespoke exposure to the subspecialty with an expectation of a small contribution to support the emergency eye department and on-call commitments.
