Your Role
Are you interested in joining a dynamic and digital first council which puts the people of Stockport at the heart of everything we do? Can you work in a fast-paced environment with Senior Officers and Elected Members who are ambitious for Stockport?
We are looking for a highly motivated colleague experienced in clerking the full spectrum of council committee meetings (Cabinet, Scrutiny, Area Committees and regulatory), who demonstrates exceptional communications skills when advising councillors, officers and other stakeholders. You will also assume responsibility for providing support to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor and the planning and co-ordination of civic event in addition to being involved in clerking school admission appeal hearings. You will also assist with the delivery of elections in order to support the Service Manager, Electoral Services (experience desired but not essential) and have previous experience of line management of colleagues.
The successful candidate will need to be willing to work unsociable hours and be available to clerk evening meetings (after 6pm for which flexi time is accrued) both at the Civic Complex and at external venues in the borough, for which a driving license and car is desirable (pool cars are available for hire).
About You
You will be dynamic and flexible in your approach and enjoy working in a fast paced and a demanding environment. You will part of a highly effective and capable team, accountable for the local authority’s decision-making process and effective management of the governance process. You will need to demonstrate excellent organisation skills, be pro-active in diary management and foreseeing and dealing with deadlines. You must also have the skills needed to manage and lead. Experience of Mod.gov/Issue Manager, webcasting systems (such as public-i), remote meeting technology (such as Microsoft Teams and Connect Remote) and Microsoft Office is essential.
