Summary
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience running a commercial photography studio, along with a comprehensive understanding of studio and darkroom operations. You will be responsible for providing technical support to both staff and students, supervising projects, and managing the maintenance of photography equipment and spaces. The role involves facilitating student workshops, ensuring health and safety standards are met, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry developments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert technical support and demonstrations for academic staff and students in photography studios and darkrooms.
- Supervise students during technical tasks, assisting with individual and group projects.
- Maintain and manage photography equipment, ensuring all tools are safe, functional, and available for use.
- Conduct risk assessments and uphold health and safety standards in all photography spaces.
- Collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to troubleshoot and solve technical challenges.
- Manage the booking and maintenance of studio spaces, ensuring a professional and stimulating environment.
- Support the faculty’s commitment to professional development by staying informed on the latest industry technologies.
Essential Criteria:
- Demonstrable experience of operating a photography studio.
- In-depth knowledge of photography studio equipment, including setup and safe usage.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and maintain accurate records.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with students, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Experience in writing and reviewing risk assessments, and applying health and safety regulations in a practical environment.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field or relevant work experience.
Desirable Criteria:
- A Master’s degree or teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards).
- Experience using Moodle or similar platforms for student support.
- Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh (desirable but not essential).
