The Opportunity

Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Site Operations Water & Foul Lead to join our Enabling & Earth Works team at Sizewell C (SZC)with occasional travel to London. This is a great time to join an exciting project.
The Water & foul Lead will oversee the design and deployment of all the aspects required for the delivery and operations of the potable network, desalination plant, foul water treatment plants and associated network and the surface water network which for the operation of Sizewell C.
The Water & foul Lead plays a vital role in risk mitigation, change management, and maintaining high standards of technical compliance for the water installation hence contributing significantly to the smooth progression, success, and efficiency of the Sizewell C project.
You’ll lead for all water-related works the Water Lead shall support the utilities diversions. and connections.
You’ll be responsible for the strategic management and coordination of various technical and engineering processes, including technical issue resolution, safety, health, and environmental practices, and utility design and construction.
You’ll be responsible for the stakeholder management with all water stakeholders including Essex and Suffolk Water, Northumbrian Water, Anglian Water, the Environmental Agency and others.
You’ll have three direct reports: Foul & Drainage PM, Desal Plant PM, and Potable Water PM.
Our teams are set up to work flexibly, with a hybrid working approach between our offices and your home. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.

The Role
You’ll be the primary point of contact responsible for:
Ensure all the works relating to water works adhere to client specifications, projects, timelines, and budgets.
Provide strategic coordination of water resources, from design to operations, to maximise value to the project.
Establish the governance for the management of the Water & foul works.
Develop the plan for water resources transition from planning to delivery and delivery to operations.
Lead the team responsibly and effectively and provide resolution of any arising issues.
Oversight and assurance of Principal Contractor compliance.
Encourage SHE feedback and take a leading role in addressing SHE-related issues associated with the provision and management of water-related works.
Develop strong working relationships with other teams to understand their requirements and needs for water-related works.
Ensure technical compliance with DCO and all other requirements, facilitating successful testing, commissioning, and handover to the Utilities Operations Team.
Foster cooperation and build strong working relationships with Utilities Designers, Contractors and external stakeholders as on when required.
Develop strong working relationships with other teams.
Lead a team responsible for effective coordination with other teams, including Designers, Temporary Works, other Construction teams and Consents Managers, to ensure compliance with DCO and best practices.
Ensure effective coordination with internal stakeholders.
Additionally, you’ll demonstrate industry knowledge and have experience on the management of water works and associated installations.
Have experience or technical skills in the water supply industry and construction site utilities.
Ideally, you will come from the Water, Construction, or Energy sector.


The Skills


Proven experience, minimum 10 years in utilities design and management and, or coordination on large construction projects.
Strong leadership, and team management skills.
Excellent communication and decision making , skills and experience in positive stakeholder engagement.
In-depth knowledge of the requirements, materials, and technical specifications required to achieve the construction of complex water installations.
Utility management experience in large scale construction or infrastructure projects.
Intellectual capacity to deal with complex issues and work creating a one team ethos.

Desirable


Familiarity with nuclear power plant projects or similar high-compliance environments.
Advance negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Knowledge of environmental management and sustainability practices.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
Professional certifications in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
