Privacy Officer

This is a Hybrid working role with a requirement to attend our Sheffield office every Tuesday and one to two further, flexible days.

As Privacy Officer at Royal Mail Group, you will be responsible for supporting data protection and information governance compliance and best practice within Royal Mail and the Royal Mail Group of companies. This role within the Information Rights and Governance team plays a vital role in supporting Royal Mail Groups compliance with legal obligations under data protection and privacy laws.

About the role
As Privacy Officer you will:

- Manage and respond to individual rights, requests, enquiries, and complaints. This includes data subject access requests and other requests from customers, colleagues, and members of the public as well as ICO ‘Assessments’ of escalated complaints or concerns. The role is responsible for handling casework in accordance with regulatory requirements and guidance from the ICO.
- Investigation and assessment of data incident reports for Royal Mail to comply with its obligations in respect of personal data breaches and remediate risks.
- You’ll gather and review information in line with the legislation, ensure appropriate reporting and escalation of data protection incidents, maintain accurate records, and provide advice and support to other functions in relation to data protection and privacy legislation.
- To support the Privacy Manager (Privacy Rights) in producing appropriate reporting and management information on casework and incident management. Contributing to insights and KPIs as part of the Privacy Dashboard as appropriate.


About You
To truly excel in the role, you will be able to demonstrate the necessary skills, qualifications and experience listed below:

- Excellent knowledge of data protection and privacy compliance issues and applicable privacy and information governance law and good practice.
- Previous experience of working in a data protection, information rights or records and information management role.
- Self-motivated with good time management and 'can do' attitude, focused on seeking solutions with the ability to work to strict statutory deadlines.
- Ability to adapt in a changing business environment and to embrace and implement change.
- Willing to take on new challenges, additional responsibilities, and changes in role.
- Excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills. This is vital for research and collation of data from stakeholders at all levels of Royal Mail Group.
