The Role and Department

As Asbestos Coordinator, based within the Estates and Facilities Directorate, you will support the University in managing risks arising from Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs), in line with the requirements of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

You will work closely with the Senior Asbestos Manager, contributing to the implementation of the University's Asbestos Management Plan through the delivery of technical support and accurate administrative compliance focused work.

This role will involve a high level of stakeholder engagement and, to be successful, you will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills. Compliance reporting will also be an important element of the role, and therefore accuracy and attention to detail will be key.

A knowledge of construction styles and building materials, as well as health and safety and asbestos legislation is desirable, but not essential. However, the successful candidate must be committed to undertaking industry training, such as the BOHS P405, to achieve competency in asbestos management (unless the qualification is already held).

The Estates and Facilities Directorate provides essential services to Durham University and is responsible for managing, maintaining and developing the infrastructure and building fabric of the various campuses.
