THE BUSINESS

Our Client is a local, family run company based who has investment from a global business. They provide a professional, friendly and efficient service and specialise in supplying ready mix concrete across North East of England. They operate a fleet of volumetric concrete mixers, to both construction and domestic customers. They are a business who reinvests into their business and some of their vehicles are the best in the North East.

Due to a person retiring from their role an opportunity has arose for an experienced transport planner, who will be developed to become a transport manager. Depending on your experience the client is happy to speak with people who have either a transport planner, or transport manager background.

THE ROLE

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will have the primary function of speaking to customers on a daily basis, taking orders, scheduling jobs and distributing work to the drivers. Some of your duties include:

- You will speak to customers on a daily basis, taking orders for delivery of ready mix concrete and aggregates to the construction industry and general public.

- You will schedule jobs to ensure efficiency and to suit the needs of your customers.

- You will distribute work to your drivers through the scheduling system.

- You will ensure compliance with driving hours legislation.

- You will actively participate in promoting the business and helping to drive sales.

- You will be a relationship builder managing these effectively with key customers

- You will co-ordinate with other team members ensuring smooth and efficient operations within the business.

- You will carry out any other duties not listed above as may reasonably be expected

- You will coordinate the movement of materials, equipment, and personnel, ensuring timely delivery to construction sites.

- You will ensure all transportation activities comply with relevant regulations and safety standards.

- You will monitor transportation performance metrics and analyse data to identify areas for improvement.

THE PERSON

The successful person will be an experienced transport planner or manager, preferably from the construction sector with experience in dispatching ready mix concrete and aggregates.

This role demands a keen eye for detail and strong organisational skills, as you will be responsible for coordinating the company's ready mic concrete operation.

- You must have strong organisation skills in order to carry out this role.

- Having a CPC qualification would be a significant advantage.

- You will be able to demonstrate the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

- Having a background in the construction industry or transport planning would be significant advantage.

- You will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in transport planning within the construction or a similar sector.

- You will have a proven track record of managing complex logistics and transportation operations.

- You will demonstrate strong analytical skills and ability to interpret transportation data.

- You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- You will have strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

- You will demonstrate a problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.

- Professional certifications in logistics or transport management (e.g. CPC) are a significant advantage.
