Who is Southwell Racecourse and Golf Course?
Set the in the town of Southwell near Newark and one of only six all-weather racecourse tracks in the UK, Southwell has its own unique charm and character, making it one of the premier sporting venues in the East Midlands. After previously owning the UK’s only fibresand surface All-Weather track, Southwell switched over to a Tapeta surface as of 2021. With racing on both All-Weather and Turf tracks taking place throughout the year, we are one of the country's busiest racecourses.
Not only are we Horseracing at Southwell we are also home to Southwell Golf Club. The course has two contrasting nine holes. The Front 9 sits within Southwell Racecourse and is characterised by a large number of water hazards. The 7th hole, a 138 yards par 3 with an island green is Southwell’s signature hole.
About the role of Greenkeeper:
To prepare and maintain all areas of the golf course and surrounds in accordance with good sports turf management guidelines and the requirements of the company
Management of all fine turf areas as required, to ensure that they are in the best possible condition and to the highest standards of presentation at all times
Forward planning to include daily, weekly, seasonal and annual tasks. All planning will be recorded along with other relevant data (weather and irrigation) that will allow analysis to identify trends and developments in the course and its conditions providing better information for future decision making
To carryout course construction, bunker, tees, greens etc where agreed and as required
Presentation of lawns, car park and other clubhouse areas to the highest possible standard
Flower beds and hanging baskets maintenance as required
To keep all roadways, clear of rubbish/dirt
To ensure that all the golf course machinery and equipment is used as per the manufacturer’s general instructions
Please Note- This role is predominately outdoor-based in all-weather around the year and can be physically demanding.
The person we are looking for as Greenkeeper has….
Previous experience working in the Golf sector
Full clean UK driving license
Spray PA1, PA2A & PA6 an advantage
Chainsaw qualifications an advantage
Strong communication skills – able to communicate at all levels
Strong organizational skills
