Summary
You will be part of a small busy team dealing with the regulation of a range of licensing legislation including the Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005 and legislation regulating the licensing of hackney carriage and private hire drivers, vehicles and operators.
Your work will involve dealing with applications, completing checks, arranging visits where necessary, co-ordinating the representation process and compiling reports where appropriate. You will advise licence holders, the public and officers of the Council on licensing requirements and investigate complaints, gathering and recording evidence and intelligence to build case files for assessing further action. You will write and present reports at committee hearings and support legal representatives at appeal, tribunals, magistrates courts etc.
You will need to be systematic in approach and have an eye for detail to work accurately and efficiently to deadlines. You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills, enjoy being a team player to support colleagues and external partners and also have the ability to manage a varied personal workload.
Whilst based at the Civic Centre with predominantly office hours the post holder will be required to work some evenings and weekends as necessary, sometimes at short notice. The licensing team also deliver the licensing functions on behalf of Maldon District Council and a full UK car driving licence and access to a vehicle is required.
