Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Occupational Therapist or Speech and Language Therapist to lead our Under 5s Social Communication Pathway in Tower Hamlets. This position combines the roles of expert clinician with service and staff development, team leadership and multi-disciplinary working. The role requires working closely alongside therapy staff and our wider partners in the borough, including Early Help and Health Visiting Services.

Our vision in Children’s Therapies is to provide care for children and families that is personalised, outcomes driven, based on evidence and contemporary theories of practice relevant to the field of childhood disability.

The post holder will be based at Mile End Hospital, conveniently located between Mile End and Stepney Green tube stations and serviced by local buses.

The Community Children’s Therapy Service sits in Specialist Community Children’s Services within the Children’s Hospital.

The service offers a community-based therapies service to the children of Tower Hamlets and is delivered in clinic settings, early years provisions, schools, children and family centres and family homes. The service is staffed by speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and therapy co-workers.

We are looking to further develop our pathways to address the needs of the cohort of children with social communication differences under 5 years old.

These are the priorities for the pathway:

· support partner organisations with interventions for these families at a targeted level e.g. in Family Hubs

· develop a specialist intervention pathway using the skills of speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and therapy support workers.

· support early years settings to provide effective provision for children with social communication differences.

· support the pathway for appropriate referrals into our autism assessment service.

· Provide advice as part of the education, health and care needs assessment process

The post holder will lead on the pathway, working closely with other therapy leads.

The post holder will be either a qualified speech and language therapist or occupational therapist with experience of leading a team, pathway development and working with children under 5.
