This role will focus on the visitor experience and programming side of collections care. Looking after exhibitions, seasonal programming and conservation in action sessions alongside line managing our service assistants across the House and the Carriage Museum. This is a role where a strong knowledge of collections care is needed along with a good understanding of visitor experience and programming.

Please note interviews will take place on Wednesday 11th September at Arlington Court.

Devon is a county of contrasts - from surfing beaches and spectacular cliffs on the north coast to the mellow south Devon countryside, with the wilds of Dartmoor - our North Devon portfolio has it all! With inspiring valleys, sandy beaches, towering cliffs, woodlands and moorland, North Devon was a favourite landscape of the Romantic Poets. It provides all visitors with a huge opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with walks of all shapes and sizes and if you love the outdoors, you’ll love being part of our team who promote our cause and the importance of preserving these special places for our future generations.

As the Collections and House Officer, you’ll be responsible for opening the house every day, and making sure there are enough people in the right places to give visitors a consistently good experience.

Supervised by the Collections and House Manager, you'll be responsible for routine conservation, preventive conservation and the annual programme of deep cleaning. Your attention and expertise will help to ensure excellent standards of care throughout the house.

You'll collect and record information gathered during cleaning and housekeeping, to improve our knowledge and understanding of the house and all that’s in it. You’ll use preventive conservation methods to improve how we look after everything, and how we present it to visitors.

You will also work with our Programming and Partnerships Officer and the Collections team to develop and deliver a changeable and exciting programme for our visitors across both sites.

We'd love to hear from you if you’re:
someone who puts people first, and who knows what’s needed to make sure everyone receives great service
able to work as part of a team, with skills in day-to-day supervision and management
good at talking to, and getting on with, all kinds of people
comfortable with managing costs and spending
full of ideas about how to make spaces and objects accessible to more visitors
