Summary

The UK Exports Strategy Directorate (UKES) is responsible for boosting national exporting performance and supporting businesses by helping the department deliver better policies and more targeted support. This is done by identifying more efficient and innovative ways The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) can support small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to export.

The Stakeholder and Intel team, where this role sits, focuses on broader, national issues impacting particularly SMEs who are already exporting, or want to start to export.

DBT has many existing intel gathering structures, the person in this role will be required to navigate that, making judgements on how to gather the best intel from these channels to inform teams across Domestic and International Markets and Exports (DIME) on key issues impacting SMEs.

The role will also require intel gathering from external stakeholders such as SME’s and Business Representative Organisations (BROs), think tanks, academics and others.

This is an exciting opportunity to join UKES and develop this new role to inform the department’s policy development and operational support.

Collaborate with the team on the information gathered from internal and external sources, ensuring all relevant and useful information is collated, analysed and reviewed to share with the wider UKES team and beyond.

Develop and implement an intelligence gathering structure, that complements existing DBT channels, focusing on issues affecting SMEs to export.

Use intel to build clear lines of sight to inform DBT’s approach to finding the best policies and services to help exporters.

Deliver outputs to allow DBT officials to understand leading edge indicators around business context and the services needed to grow exports.
