Housing Benefit Assessment Officer - Haringey
3 Months, 35 hours per week
We are recruiting for a Housing Benefit Assessment Officer for a London Borough Authority in Haringey. This role requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in all HB assessments, including New Claims, Atlas, VEPs, HBAA, and change of circumstances, with good knowledge of iWorld and Information@work systems.
THE ROLE To accurately, efficiently, and courteously assess entitlement for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support, and discretionary funds. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing applications and evidence for accuracy and calculating entitlement.
  • Processing change of circumstances quickly and accurately.
  • Undertaking reviews of entitlement using all relevant sources.
  • Determining overpaid amounts and initiating recovery actions.
  • Advising on applications for discretionary funds.
  • Managing workload and ensuring accurate data input.
  • Notifying claimants of determinations with clear advice and guidance.
  • Identifying and referring potential fraud cases.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advising residents on welfare benefits and participating in take-up campaigns.


THE CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role, with the following additional experience required:

  • Experience of assessing claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.
  • Practical working knowledge of relevant regulations.
  • Experience using an electronic document management system.
  • Excellent communication skills for explaining complex decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-volume, pressurized environment.


THE CONTRACT

  • 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • 3 months, potential temp to perm
