Sustainable Tourism Officer

35 hours per week

£29,148 - £31,265 / £15.97 - £17.13 per hour (including Distant Islands Allowance)

We are looking to recruit a Sustainable Tourism Officer to support the sustainable development and responsible management of tourism in Orkney. This is an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of regenerative outcomes for local communities, businesses and the natural and historic environment, and improvement of the visitor experience.

Applying knowledge and experience from previous roles, you will progress a Council plan to improve public services that support tourism as well as other plans, strategies and policies. You will also develop and deliver tourism-related projects and initiatives that further climate action, biodiversity conservation, cultural heritage preservation, accessibility and inclusivity, visitor and community wellbeing, and knowledge sharing and local capacity building.

You will have a proven background in tourism development and management and a track record of fostering effective relationships and working collaboratively with colleagues and a range of stakeholders. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, together with the ability to innovate, problem-solve, and think strategically will be key to your success in this role.

You should hold a relevant SCQF level 8/9 qualification (e.g., SVQ4, HND, general degree) or have a minimum of 5 years previous experience relevant to the post.

This post requires Basic Disclosure Scotland clearance.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
