Summary

SEND Behavioural Teaching Assistant (PRU)
Hays are proud to be working in partnership with an OFSTED rated 'Good' school in Leicester City Centre. This provision caters for the needs of SEMH children with challenging behaviours, at risk of being permanently expelled from mainstream schooling. This PRU aims to manage student behaviour back down to a level where they are able to return to a mainstream setting.

About Us:We are a dedicated Behavioural Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) catering to students aged 11-16 with a variety of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as challenging and complex behaviours.
Our mission is to provide a supportive and nurturing environment where every student can achieve their full potential, with an aim of successfully transitioning our pupils back into mainstream education.
Job Purpose:To support the educational and emotional development of students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours, ensuring they have the best possible opportunities to succeed.
You will provide vital classroom support and encourage the academic development of the students through being a conscientious, empathetic, but stern role model both inside and outside the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support to students, both one-on-one and in small interventions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs.
  • Support classroom management and promote positive behaviour through consistent and fair SEND practices.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for all.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities where required.
  • Implement strategies to support students' social and emotional development.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
  • Provide support during school activities, including outings and special events.


Person Specification:
Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.
  • A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.


Desirable:

  • Additional training or qualifications in SEMH, behaviour management, or special education.
  • Experience working in a PRU or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices in supporting students with SEMH needs.
