Summary

79252 - Assistant Operational Engineer

This Assistant Operational Engineer will report to the Lead Operational Engineer and will work within Services - Airports Sector based in our Stanstead and City Airport Client Locations. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £51,245 plus car and a bonus of 3%.

Job Purpose:

You will undertake Operational Project and Maintenance requirements upon UK Power Networks Services owned assets under the management and guidance of the Operations Engineer. You will assist the Operational Engineer in the management of Technicians, Apprentices and Contractors to undertake Operational Engineer status within a defined progression programme and undertake such training to help achieve this objective.

You will ensure safety management throughout all areas of the position's responsibility observing Stay Safe.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Construction and Maintenance of the UK Power Networks Services owned assets through the range 33kV to 400V.
  • Work with the Operational Engineers to deliver all construction activities on time, cost and quality making use of available resources.
  • Follow Client & UK Power Networks Services Operations and Procedures.
  • Operate HV and LV Distribution Protection Systems.
  • Testing and Commissioning of HV and LV Distribution System.
  • Maintain the Control and Protection Systems.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM and UK Power Networks Services Health and Safety policies.
  • Develop site specific H,S & E procedures.
  • Compliance with UK Power Networks Services quality policies.
  • Operate and update Asset database in respect of project activities.
  • Responsible for both reactive and planned maintenance activities.
  • Manage fault investigation and repairs.
  • Modify equipment and drawings to ensure the efficient operation of the substations.
  • Ensure the compliance with the distribution safety rules during all activities.
  • Responsible for the submission of all Airside and Landside operational permits (Manoeuvring area, roads and stands) including Hot Work applications, Confined Space Permits, Service Clearance Applications and Permits to Dig.
  • Oversee all contractors/staff working on site Support and provide technical assistance to field staff and contractors.
  • Ensure that staff and contractors are aware of all safety and environmental issues and adopt safe working practices regarding projects carried out under your guidance.
  • Collate, approve, finalise and red line project as built drawings.
  • Undertake additional activities determined by the job level and competency

Nature and Scope:

Working with the Operational Engineer, other team members and managers, you will be a team player able to work within a pressurised environment to focus on the delivery of construction and maintenance works to time and quality, and also to our client's satisfaction. You will work with both client and contractors:-

  • Provide technical support as part of the Airport Sector.
  • Attend and contribute to team briefings, give feed-back.
  • Identify potential project risks/opportunities (raise awareness within team / company).
  • Seek continuous improvement.
  • Hold Restricted Zone Pass and Driving Permit.
  • Participate in a standby rota and work additional hours to maintain the supplies to the Clients Infrastructure.
  • Work unsocial hours to respond to faults on system.
  • Work with other team members to manage activities such as switchgear, battery and transformer maintenance, substation inspection cleaning and painting.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Operational to Authorised Person Status.
  • Experience in distribution systems through the range 33kV to 400V
  • Security clearance for Client infrastructure Access.
  • Medical & Drugs and Alcohol screening.
  • Educated to ONC level qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of distribution HV & LV Systems.
  • Read drawings and understand content.
  • Experience to manage contractors.
  • Work in different environments, including confined spaces and at height.
  • Identify problems, understand important issues and investigate alternatives.
  • Hold full driving licence.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, MS Project and other custom software packages.

Desirable

  • Work towards HNC qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  • Work towards Senior Authorised Person.
  • A broad understanding of UK Power Networks Services businesses.
  • Knowledge of UK Power Networks Services project process.
  • Travel around the Strategic Operations client portfolios.
  • A broad understanding of Airport Sector's and clients requirements.
  • To be skilful in decision-making.
  • Relevant Safety Qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH
  • Knowledge of Construction Design and Management Regulations
