We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual who would like to work in our busy Public Health and Housing Options Service.

The role of Accommodation Assistant is 37 hours per week and will be responsible for supporting the Accommodation team that sits within the Housing Options Team.

The successful candidate will have a specific role in the delivery of the day to day management of the teams’ newly acquired temporary accommodation. This will involve ensuring the accommodation Officers have the information they need to carry out property checks and support our customers. It will also involve booking hotels and keeping update to date records of the temporary accommodation available to ensure the team can provide housing quickly.

In addition, the post holder will be the first point of contact for customer’s approaching the team and will be expected to give basic advice and guidance, signposting customers to other services and completing case notes on the system. You will also be involved in helping customers complete various grant applications.

You will be the key contact in a range of refugee schemes such as Homes for Ukraine. This will involve managing host/guest relationships, managing the ‘thank you’ payments and guest vouchers, dealing with initial enquiries and providing data for statistical returns on the schemes.

The role will also be responsible for collating data for other government returns that are crucial for funding bids.

You will liaise with officers in dealing with customers and other agencies, and provide the full range of other business support as required. In doing so you will be a key point of contact for these function areas.

An ability to prioritise effectively and be able to manage data/information and support business processes with attention to detail is essential. You will need to hold (or be working towards) relevant qualifications e.g. Level 3 NVQ in Business Admin/Customer Services, and ideally have recent customer services experience in a similar role along with proven business support skills, ideally in a statutory or regulatory environment.

You should be committed to delivering excellent services and maintaining effective relationships with other officers, members and other key stakeholders/partners drawing upon good communication and interpersonal skills. Ideally you will have a full driving licence and your own transport.

You will also need the confidence to deal with sometimes challenging or difficult situations and to work effectively with other authorities and agencies. Computer literacy is essential and a working knowledge of Jigsaw, Integrator and Orchard Software, is desirable (though training can be provided).
