Summary

• To assist the provision of a high standard of therapy services to patients within GSTT and to undertake duties to support the smooth functioning of the department and service
• To treat own delegated workload of patients and maintain associated patient records
• To carry out and prioritise own caseload of patients with simple predictable conditions as delegated by the podiatrist


• To provide competent treatment to patients within set clinical protocols as appropriate


• Ability to work with minimal or no immediate supervision – using initiative


• To use own clinical judgement and knowledge in regards to progressing and/or adapting treatment programmes within agreed clinical protocols and parameters


• To assist with the care of patients as appropriate


• To assist the therapist with individual and group treatments / exercise and/or clinics


• To be able to recognise change in the condition or reaction of a patient with guidance from therapists and to watch the patient response to any treatment undertaken


• To demonstrate an awareness and an ability to manage clinical risk


• To comply with the Health and Safety Regulations


• To be able to cope with occasional, potentially stressful, upsetting or emotional situations in an empathetic manner


• To attend mandatory training



Foot Health provides clinical services at the acute hospital sites as well as the community in Lambeth and Southwark boroughs. The services provide a full range of podiatry services available within the scope of an HCP registered Podiatrist, which include outpatient and domiciliary visits. The department provides specialist and generalist podiatric care across a multitude of sites including 2 acute units, 12 health centres, 12 general practices and countless residential and nursing homes, homeless shelters, patients homes and Brixton prison.

The team comprises of approximately 40 clinical staff and a team of 8 administrators.

As well as covering podiatry, the Foot Health service also manages Podiatric Surgery in a day case unit for Lambeth and Southwark.

1. Duties and Responsibilities


• To assist podiatrist to carry out foot care and health promotion activities


• Carries out delegated foot care in community or hospital settings




• Organises and assists in podiatric clinics


CLINICAL

• To carry out and prioritise own caseload of patients with simple predictable conditions as delegated by the podiatrist

MANAGEMENT


• To be responsible for competent use and maintenance of all equipment used to report defects in equipment


• To maintain and order stocks of equipment


• To assist with non-clinical induction of assistants and students as required


• Responsible for maintenance of accurate patients records using appropriate/current information systems
