Canterbury Christ Church University is seeking a full time Information Governance Administrator to join our Governance and Legal Services team.

The Opportunity

As an Information Governance Administrator, you will be the crucial first point of contact for information rights requests, freedom of information requests and other information governance and data protection-related matters such as data breaches investigation and recovery. You will understand how GDPR fits into the bigger picture and ambitions of the University. You will advise and guide individuals across the organisation on all aspects of the various information legislation.

You will have strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to build and maintain strong professional relationships to help promote the information governance ethos across the University. You will support with training colleagues and actively promote best practice to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations.

Information Governance and Data Protection sits within Governance and Legal Services headed up by the University Solicitor and Clerk to the Governing body. We are a small but friendly and supportive team. Personal development is highly valued, and we will offer the role holder data protection training making this a great opportunity to move into or develop within information governance.


Who are we looking for?

We welcome professionals ideally with some experience in data protection and/or data management from any sector so long as you are keen to learn about data protection in a university environment that embraces both research and teaching.

For this role, the challenge is combining technical knowledge with a very human approach. You need to communicate technical things in a way that interests people working in different levels and different areas.


That is what our ideal Information Governance Compliance Officer will have:


Administrative experience in a busy office environment with the ability to independently manage and meet many conflicting deadlines and work under pressure.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge and understanding of the relevant data protection legislation, other information governance requirements, information security standards, ICO guidance and records management.

A-level, graduate or equivalent in data protection, information governance, administrative, record management, paralegal or be working toward this.
