An exciting opportunity has arisen in this dynamic and progressive Obstetrics & Gynaecology department, within this world class institution. This post is a Physician Associate role at Band 7 level which will provide clinical care to our patients and work alongside staff to support across Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

This is the second Physician Associate post, our existing Physician Associate works across our maternity service to support elective section lists and our maternity wards. This post will provide an opportunity to gain exposure to a breadth of learning opportunities across our services as well as opportunity to develop experience in specialist interests.

The unit delivers around 6800 women per year and has an equally busy gynaecology unit seeing 12 000 emergencies and 10 000 new referrals each year. We have an exceptional reputation for education with protected time for teaching and consultant led educational supervision, and excellent opportunities to develop skills in all areas of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (clinical, research, educational and service improvement leadership). There is an international reputation for research and development in maternal medicine, assisted conception and prematurity.

The postholder will support our patients and clinical teams including but not limited to the following areas:

· Hospital Birth Centre (Labour Ward) and elective section lists

· Antenatal and Postnatal Wards

· Maternity Assessment Unit (Triage)

· Gynaecology Ward

The key duties and responsibilities will include:

· Assess and examine patients across our Obstetrics & Gynaecology services, requesting appropriate investigations, interpreting results, diagnosing and recommending management/ treatment accordingly.

· Attend medical ward rounds and providing continuing care for patients on the wards.

· Support in elective section lists on our hospital birth centre for both NHS and privately-funded patients.

· Maintain timely and appropriate documentation, document all aspects of patient care, and complete all required paperwork.

· Have, develop and maintain specialist clinical knowledge related to Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

· Keep up to date with current guidelines and maintain best practice.

· Contribute to the development of efficient pathways of care in accordance with the current best practice and national guidelines.

· Contribute to achieving and maintaining performance within the hospital and department.

· Work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective team working in the provision of in-patient care to patients on a day-to-day basis.

· Take part in the administration of the department and the involvement in the management of resources.

· Support and contribute to timely discharge planning including completing discharge summaries and support optimising bed capacity

· To be flexible to work in different areas across the service based on the unit requirements.

· To be accountable for the care given and to comply with the Fitness to Practice and Code of Conduct standard as established by the UK Managed Voluntary Register for Physician Associates (and subsequently the appropriate statutory regulating body, when this is in place).

· To work within the framework of the scope of professional practice.

· Abide by the Clinical and Corporate Governance policies of the Trust.
