Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced Band 5 Staff Nurse within the Cardiovascular Directorate on Doulton Ward.

The Doulton ward team are dynamic and friendly, who are keen to help, support and develop nurses interested in experiencing the cardiovascular surgery environment. If you are an enthusiastic, flexible, passionate and experienced cardiovascular surgery nurse then this would be the ideal opportunity for you.

We are looking for committed individuals with excellent organisational and inter/intrapersonal skills, who have a genuine interest in working with cardiovascular surgery to join our team

As a successful candidate you will have high standards of care, be a positive role model in empowering staff, have experience and a sound knowledge in cardiovascular surgery.

Doulton ward takes pre and post cardiac and vascular surgery. There is a strong emphasis on Enhanced Recovery (ERAS) pathway as part of the National guidelines. It consists of 25 inpatient beds caring for patients from Level 1 to Level 2 (ERAS).

All applicants must have NMC registration and significant experience in cardiovascular surgery.

This post will involve internal rotation including long days and night shifts as well as weekends and bank holidays.

We are seeking for experienced, enthusiastic and dynamic nurses who have skills in quick yet safe holistic assessment of patient’s care in cardiovascular surgery ward.

The post holder is wholly accountable for his / her practice in line with the NMC code of professional conduct and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his / her knowledge and skills.

The post holder will act in accordance with Local, Hospital and Statutory Guidelines & Policies and be aware of its implications to clinical practice and professional competence

The post holder will work closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and will maintain a high level standard of care by adopting a patient orientated approach as well as undertaking holistic patient assessment.

This post requires the applicant to be able to work under pressure, willingness to learn, striving to provide exemplary care to service users and their relatives, demonstrate excellent communication skills and empower staff by being a patient advocate.

All staff are expected to comply with GSTT trust values, policies and procedures. Effective communication and working well within a team are essential skills required for working within the cardiovascular surgery ward.

Responsible for carrying out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring that high quality, current evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, implementation, interventions and evaluations for patients is provided from admission through to safe discharge in cardiovascular ward

Will be responsible for the application of knowledge and skills across the range of procedures, treatments and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical experience.

To act as advocate for patients within the cardiovascular ward, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.

To ensure that patients’ receive high quality clinical care and an exemplary patient experience, having regard and respect for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.

Recognise and prevent situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.

Will advise on the promotion of health and the prevention of illness as well as following protocol and guidelines such as infection control and good hand hygiene.

Work alongside multi-disciplinary team to ensure that all patients will have a discharge plan that is safe and appropriate for their needs and care plans.

Take a clear and concise history from patients by assessing their health and well being and complete documentation ensuring that all entries are accurate and that all information systems are maintained.

To be responsible and accountable for the correct administration of prescribed medication and follow the correct process of safe medicines management.

To conduct a thorough holistic assessment by completing patient centred care plans and accurate vital signs to early recognise any abnormal results and able to follow correct escalation process.
