Summary
The Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) is a nationally recognised service providing essential advice and guidance to the NHS in relation to all aspects of medicines use. We operate as a single integrated team spanning all 7 regions of NHS England & Improvement. We are hosted by a number of NHS Trusts across the country and are a close-knit group of highly experienced pharmacy professionals and support staff.
Within this team there are 5 functions, one of which is Pharmacy Procurement. Due to a reorganisation across SPS there is now an additional post sitting within the Procurement Hub. The post-holder will support all aspects of the work currently undertaken by the Regional Pharmacy Procurement Specialists.
Applications are invited from those with a pharmacy background but also from those with no experience in this area. Project management skills and data handling ability will be the main requirements of the successful applicant and a pharmacy background is not essential.
The post is advertised as 37.5 hours and this is the overall requirement but applications from applicants interested in part time hours and a potential job-share with another successful candidate will also be very welcome.
You will work as part of a regional and national team in delivering agreed priorities, facilitating access to the most appropriate medicines, delivered via a robust supply chain, to the NHS organisations in their region, whilst offering best value for money to those organisations.
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest in the country, with a workforce of approximately 15,000 who serve a population of 1.2 million people.
We work together, and in conjunction with MSE Health and Care Partnership, to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients in a compassionate way, and provide a respectful, but vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.
From facilities through to consultant specialists we want to be the best, to achieve this we need to recruit not just those who are the finest in their field but also those who have the potential to be. Yes, experience is important but so is outlook – if you are dynamic, forward-thinking and enthusiastic we want you to join us.
We not only offer you a good working environment with flexible working opportunities, but also the opportunity to develop your career with access to appropriate training for your job and the support to succeed and progress.
For full details about this varied and rewarding role, please see attached job description, but some of the responsibilities include
You will work to support the collaborative working of the regional leads and their associates to deliver pharmacy procurement services as outlined in the NHS SPS service specification (December 2021). Data analysis and project management skills will be a key requirement of this role.
You will lead work to develop systems and ensure delivery of all elements of the SPS specification and delivering the CMU/SPS KPIs, working with RPPS leads and their associates in achieving these. This will involve working with all SPS functions as well as colleagues in NHSE, DHSC and local health economies.
