Are you interested in making a difference for the 14.6 million disabled people within the UK?

Do you enjoy collaborating and building rapport with a range of partners?

If so, we have a fantastic opportunity to join our team, and we would love to hear from you.

DPTAC is the Secretary of State’s expert statutory advisor on the transport needs of disabled people. It comprises a broad range of experts in transport accessibility and inclusive travel, many of whom have lived experience of disability or non-visible impairments. The committee works closely with the Department’s policy leads, serving as a critical friend and advising on policy across air, road and rail.

The Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) Secretariat is an essential role to deliver all the necessary functions to ensure that DPTAC provides high quality independent advice to senior leaders and remains legally constituted.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop and use your stakeholder engagement and policy delivery skills to influence the Department’s strategic priority to improve transport for the user.

As a member of the small Secretariat, you will be DPTAC members’ first point of contact, and will reach out to colleagues across the Department to raise awareness, enabling DPTAC to fulfil its role as an advisory body.

In this role your key responsibilities will include:

  • Day to day relationship management with the DPTAC Chair and committee members, acting as the interface between DPTAC and DfT senior leaders.
  • Managing DPTAC’s programme of engagement with DfT, ensuring that the Department makes the best possible use of the expert advice available.
  • Managing the recruitment of DPTAC committee members.
  • Coordinating committee meetings and working group meetings.
  • Horizon scanning across the Department to identify the key issues that need to be brought to the Committee, developing a forward work programme.
  • Collaborating with the team to co-ordinate and quality assure the DPTAC administrative processes.
